The famous Dambulla Cave Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has five caves under an overhanging rock, Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with religious images. The Dambulla cave monastery remains the best-preserved ancient edifice in Sri Lanka.

Ancient Cities - Anuradhapura & Polonnaruwa

Sri Lanka’s Premier ancient city Anuradhapura, situated in the dry zone, was the first Sinhalese capital of Sri Lanka. The awesome Ruwanveliseya, Abhayagiriya, Jethawanaramaya and Thuparamaya Dagobas are still venerated by Buddhist and these massive works along the large wevas (Lakes) reveal the past glory of the city.

Polonnaruwa, The largest man-made reservoir, the Parakrama Samudraya, was built during King Parakramabahu’s and it is larger than the Colombo harbor. In the complex of Gal Vihare, there are imposing Buddha sculptures in granite.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

The rock fortress was built by King Kashyapa. This wonderful fortress in the shape of a lion is a masterpiece of architecture. Visitors to the palace have to enter through a stone stairway that takes them into the lion’s mouth and through its throat. Only the lion’s massive paws remain today.

The most famous features of the Sigiriya are the fifth century paintings found on the rock, the paintings of female figures preserved in depressions on the rock-face. Sigiriya has been made famous throughout the world for the frescoes on its rock wall and advanced water system. It is regarded as a World Heritage site.

Kandy - Last kindom of Sri Lanka

A world Heritage City, Sri Wickrema Rajasingha the last King of Sri Lanka, was taken captive by the British forces in 1815. Kandy is the capital of the Central Province. Sri Lanka’s most visited tourist destination, Kandy is in the middle of mountains and its beauty is enhanced by the artificial lake and the river Mahaveli and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.

Sri Dalada Maligawa, the temple of the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, is the main attraction. Its architecture, decorative walls, golden roof and fine wood work is vivid. Visitors can view the daily pooja (religious service) in the morning, mid-day and in the evening.

Nuwara Eliya – Little England of Sri Lanka

Nuwara Eliya town offers you everything as any other town does and more. Its unique climate, the atmosphere which some say is a typical English environment, the golf course, race-course, horses, rose gardens and British style houses add up to a perfect vacation retreat.
